Hi All

 

Hopefully you'll have recovered from Storycamp by now! I had a great time and really enjoyed the day, I hope you all had as much fun as I did.

 

Just a note to say all post #Storycamp coverage is going on the blog at http://storycamp.wordpress.com

 

There's quite a bit on there already, including links to Alison Tary's #storycamp tweetdoc, Gareth Morlais' twitter list, te Storycamp Flickr group and photos and John Popham's videos of sessions during the day (including the Ludlow StoryWalk!). 

 

I've not managed to write up everything I want to yet, so there will be a few more posts going up over the weekend.

 

Thanks again to everyone who came along and made it an extra special day. If you were there you'll know the day ended with talk of a StoryCamp 2012, so watch the StoryCamp space!!

The children are very welcome - suspect they'll add something special! :-)

Apart from yourselves, not much really. As Gareth said, a picture or small object that brings 'home' (past or present!) to mind if you can. Just bring your great mind - would be great to hear more about  Breaking Barriers' work but don't feel you have to prepare anything.

I've been watching a few of the videos at breakingbarriers.org.uk - and wondered how the lady with all the glasses could afford them!!

Gareth - here's the object I'll be bringing with me on Saturday. It's a toy I bought off Mr Ralph, a Digbeth peddlar. Rumour has it he has the last remaining Peddlar's License from Birmingham City Council (I've no idea whether or not this is true). But I have to offer my apologies as well.  I am very interested to develop skills in this area and have colleagues working in Scandinavia who organised an international event on this earlier this year. But other pressures will keep me away.

Part of my work is with Mapping for Change, a social enterprise that uses mapping, geographical information (GI) and community engagement to support social and environmental development in communities across the UK. We have an interest in using maps to record perceptions and stories as well as data, and have worked with several people and organisations linking maps, stories, and histories. People can upload pictures and videos to our maps and we are now starting to link user-generated information on maps through social networks.

I’d be keen to hear about the outcomes of the event and if there is a developing network of people working on this in the UK I’d  hope to stay in touch and actively engage.

So sorry I can't make it...I would have brought with me a stone from the railway lines in Kovel..once apon a time Poland, then Russia and now Ukraine. Here my Father was arrested and taken to Siberia to Stalins Camps...he was 17 and never to see his home town again...Many years later through many coincidences I met a man who was travelling to Kowel and asked him for a stone from the railway lines...I have it now...my precious little part of My Fathers fascinating journey, survival and my being!
